Some losses sting more than others. For the Amherstburg Senior Cardinals, Sunday’s loss will sting for a long time.

The team lost 5-4 in extra innings to the Woodslee Orioles in the final of the Essex County Senior League playoffs. The Cardinals led 4-0 early but couldn’t hold onto the lead.

“It was a good game, with a disappointing result in the end,” said manager Alan Carr. “They played well and we played well, but we didn’t get any breaks.”

The Cardinals finished fourth after the regular season but after wins over Tecumseh and Riverside earlier in the week, found themselves in the finals against the top seeded Woodslee.
